Farmhouse Kitchen Inspiration

5:00 AM

I've been looking at kitchens a lot lately.  Our kitchen isn't huge, but it's a good size, the footprint is nice and the cabinets are in great condition.  The countertops however, are absolutely terrible!!  These pictures make it look so much better than it is.  I have 4-inch blue tiles with deep, wide grout lines for a countertop.  Have you ever tried to make bread or roll out cookies or pie crusts on tile countertops?  It just doesn't work, and they're impossible to keep clean.  (PS - these are the pre-move-in photos.  Pretty sure my kitchen will never be that spotless again...Ha!)

I'm obsessed with soapstone countertops, but they're a little out of my current kitchen budget (someday maybe!), but right now I need a quick fix.  I'm intrigued by all of the posts I've seen using Ardex Feather Finish to do a concrete skimcoat, and for the price, I think I'm going to try it.  The countertops can't get much worse than they are now! However, that's a post for another day.  (Don't worry - I'll definitely keep you updated on how and when that happens.)

In the meantime, I'm also feeling a little desperate to get rid of the oak cabinets.  I've always loved nice bright white kitchens, but I'm kind of falling in love with the two tone look, with either grey cabinets or stained wood (in a different color than the current oak stain).  I want to paint the cabinets, but I just can't quite decide on a color.

Here are some beautiful farmhouse kitchens to drool over.  What do you think?  Should I go for the classic all-white kitchen, or go bold and do something more two toned? What's your favorite look?
